Bare metal private cloud

Dedicated performance for your most demanding workloads.

Bare Metal Private Cloud gives compute-intensive, sustained workloads dedicated physical infrastructure without a virtualization layer. You get consistent performance, predictable monthly costs and the control of single-tenant servers, with Rackspace managing the hardware, network and data center operations 24x7x365.

When performance slips, the business feels it first.

A point-of-sale system that slows on the busiest day of the year, a risk model that finishes after the market has moved, an AI assistant that keeps a clinician waiting. For workloads that demand consistent performance, owning servers can tie up capital and people. Bare Metal Private Cloud gives your most important workloads dedicated performance while Rackspace takes on the cost and effort of owning and operating the hardware.

bare metal

Performance, predictability and control, delivered as a service

Consistent performance at peak demand

Dedicated servers keep applications running fast through launches, seasonal peaks and period-end close, when demand is high.

Physical isolation for regulated workloads

Single-tenant servers provide physical isolation that security, compliance and audit teams can verify.

Keep your applications and operating systems

Run existing and custom applications on the operating systems they already use, without adding a virtualization layer.

Costs you can forecast

Predictable monthly costs replace large capital purchases and refresh cycles, with capacity sized to workload requirements.

Ready for AI

Dedicated processors and GPUs provide consistent compute for AI workloads close to the data they depend on.

One team accountable

Rackspace sources, deploys and operates the hardware 24x7x365, with uptime SLAs and a dedicated account team.

Control

Your most important systems, on hardware dedicated to you

Bare metal gives you direct control over physical servers used by your organization alone. Configure the environment around workload, security and compliance requirements, with visibility for security and compliance teams. Physical isolation and control support regulated data and the AI workloads that rely on it, while Rackspace handles day-to-day operations.

Why Bare metal?

Private cloud models

We helped pioneer managed private cloud, and we’ve run it every day for 25 years

Rackspace has operated private cloud from early managed hosting environments through today’s VMware Cloud Foundation platforms, supporting some of the world’s most regulated organizations along the way. Multi-tenant or dedicated, in our data centers or yours, sovereign where required and connected to public cloud as needed, each model brings the infrastructure and operating expertise together under one operating model.

Operating model

Build. Operate. Innovate.

Build

Sized for your workloads

Capacity is planned around workload demand, growth and compliance requirements, then configured and tested by the team that will operate it.

Operate

Managed 24x7x365

Hardware, network and data center operations handled every day by Rackspace, with uptime commitments and one team to call.

Innovate

Updated as technology advances

New hardware is evaluated and introduced when production-ready, keeping performance and capacity aligned with changing workload requirements.

Rackspace and Seattle Children's worked together closely to ensure that an appropriate configuration was built that factored in elements such as cost, the actual design performance of the environment, as well as ensuring that the redundancy really met our needs

FAQ

Common questions about on-premesis private cloud

Bare metal private cloud is dedicated physical server infrastructure used by a single organization, with no virtualization layer shared with other tenants. Workloads get direct access to the full CPU, GPU, memory and storage of each server, which suits performance-sensitive applications, large databases, AI training and inference, and software licensed by physical core. Rackspace Bare Metal Private Cloud delivers single-tenant servers in Rackspace data centers or your own, with Rackspace operating the environment 24x7x365.

Rackspace Bare Metal Private Cloud is managed, single-tenant physical server infrastructure with no hypervisor. Rackspace procures, provisions and operates current-generation Dell PowerEdge servers with AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon processors and optional NVIDIA GPUs, with 24x7x365 data center, network and hardware support.

Bare metal provides direct access to physical servers without a virtualization layer, supporting workloads that require consistent, dedicated performance. Dedicated Private Cloud runs VMware Cloud Foundation on isolated hardware for organizations that need virtualization, automation and VMware tooling. Both are single-tenant and operated by Rackspace.

Configurations include two or four NVIDIA L4, L40S or H100 NVL GPUs per server, and four NVIDIA HGX H100 SXM GPUs per server for more demanding workloads. Governed bare metal using AMD Instinct accelerators is planned through our agreement with AMD.

Supported options include Windows Server 2022 and 2025, Microsoft SQL Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu LTS, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux and Oracle Linux. Customers can also run custom operating systems with full administrative access.

Bare metal suits sustained, predictable workloads that benefit from dedicated server capacity over the long term. GPU-as-a-Service suits elastic or variable AI demand where capacity needs to scale up or down. Rackspace operates both models and can align capacity with workload requirements.

Yes. VMware workloads can move from hyperscaler-hosted services to Rackspace multi-tenant private cloud while retaining familiar VMware tooling. Rackspace can support both the migration and ongoing platform operations.

Choose dedicated private cloud when workloads require physical isolation for compliance, security or performance requirements. It provides single-tenant infrastructure on VMware Cloud Foundation, while multi-tenant private cloud provides logical isolation on shared infrastructure.
