Private Cloud

Private cloud, run by the people who helped pioneer it.

For 25 years, Rackspace has operated private cloud for organizations with demanding security, performance and compliance requirements. Today, you can run governed VMware Cloud Foundation environments across multi-tenant, dedicated, sovereign and on-premises models, with public cloud connectivity and one accountable team to design, build and operate them.

Private cloud is taking on more demanding workloads

More than half of organizations (56%) now run or plan to run production AI inference in private cloud. Sensitive data, systems of record and the AI that uses both come with demanding requirements for control, predictable performance and economics. Organizations need to determine which private cloud model fits their workloads and who will operate it.

Private cloud models

We helped pioneer managed private cloud, and we’ve run it every day for 25 years

Rackspace has operated private cloud from early managed hosting environments through today’s VMware Cloud Foundation platforms, supporting some of the world’s most regulated organizations along the way. Multi-tenant or dedicated, in our data centers or yours, sovereign where required and connected to public cloud as needed, each model brings the infrastructure and operating expertise together under one operating model.

Choosing a model

Start with what the workload needs

Choose the model based on workload requirements rather than the application name. Most organizations use a mix, with each workload placed according to its performance, isolation, location and capacity requirements.

Elastic capacity

Multi-tenant private cloud provides isolated resources with capacity that can expand quickly as workload demand changes.

Physical isolation

Dedicated private cloud provides physically isolated infrastructure for workloads with strict compliance, performance or licensing requirements.

Direct hardware access

Bare metal provides dedicated physical servers without a virtualization layer for compute-intensive and latency-sensitive workloads.

Data sovereignty

Sovereign private cloud supports data residency, jurisdictional control and local operations within defined geographic boundaries.

On-premises deployment

On-premises private cloud keeps workloads close to data, users or distributed sites when latency, data gravity or location requirements demand it.

Hybrid cloud integration

Hybrid cloud connects private infrastructure with public cloud services for workloads that need capabilities across both environments.

Control

Match the level of control to your workload requirements

Rackspace Private Cloud gives you control over policy, identity and data boundaries. Different deployment options extend that control through physical isolation, hardware access, location and jurisdiction. As requirements change, you can choose the environment that provides the level of control each workload requires.

VMware Cloud Foundation, run by one of its most experienced operators

Rackspace has run VMware for enterprises for more than 17 years and is among a limited set of Broadcom Advantage Partners delivering managed services on VMware Cloud Foundation. Licensing is included, the platform stays current and 400+ VMware certifications support the team operating it. For organizations rethinking their VMware strategy, Rackspace provides continuity on a platform their teams already know.

PRIVATE CLOUD

The foundation enterprise AI runs on

Private cloud provides a governed foundation for enterprise AI, keeping sensitive data, systems of record and AI workloads within the boundaries you control. From there, Enterprise AI Cloud extends the environment with dedicated GPU capacity, managed AI services and Forward Deployed Engineers to help move AI into production.

Control

Your data, your boundaries and the location of your workloads stay under your authority

Choice

Six models on one platform, connected to every major public cloud, with the freedom to change form as needs change

Economics

Licensing included, capacity right-sized to the workload and costs you can plan around

Outcomes

Measured on availability, performance and the business results the platform supports

Operating model

Build. Operate. Innovate.

Build

Designed around your workloads

Architecture, capacity, compliance and migration are planned around your workload requirements by the team that will operate the environment.

Operate

Managed 24x7x365

Rackspace manages governance, security, reliability, performance and cost 24x7x365, with defined service levels and one team accountable for the environment.

Innovate

Current by design

New platform releases, hardware generations and AI capabilities are evaluated and introduced as production-ready across your private cloud environment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Rackspace offers dedicated, multi-tenant, bare metal, sovereign, hybrid and on-premises private cloud. Most run on VMware Cloud Foundation with licensing included, bare metal runs without a hypervisor, and all are fully managed by Rackspace 24x7x365.

Start with what the workload needs: elastic capacity points to multi-tenant, physical isolation to dedicated, maximum performance to bare metal, jurisdictional control to sovereign, a specific facility to on-premises, and public cloud services alongside a private core to hybrid. Many organizations use more than one.

VMware Cloud Foundation gives enterprises a consistent software-defined platform for compute, storage, networking and security across hosted, on-premises and sovereign environments. Rackspace has operated VMware for more than 17 years and is a Broadcom Advantage Partner, with licensing included in its private cloud services.

Yes. Rackspace private cloud supports AI inference and agents next to the data they use, with dedicated GPU infrastructure, managed AI services and Forward Deployed Engineers available through Rackspace Enterprise AI Cloud.

Yes. Rackspace operates private cloud for healthcare, financial services and public sector organizations, with PCI DSS, HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC and ISO compliance, FedRAMP-authorized government cloud in the US and accredited sovereign services in the UK.

Where does Rackspace private cloud run? In Rackspace data centers across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific, in customer data centers and colocation facilities, and at edge locations, all connected by a private network to one another and to the major public clouds.
